SAtA is looking for a new Treasurer
We embarked on a new strategic plan from 2021-2024 and have made some important advancements during the first year, including a thorough review of the Charity’s governance and implementing some key improvements. We are now keen to welcome a new Treasurer who can bring their own skills and experiences to the existing Board as we focus on pushing forward with our strategic priorities.
The role of the Treasurer
The role of the Treasurer is to support the Board to meet its obligations and responsibilities in respect of the financial management of SAtA. All Trustees are equally responsible and the Treasurer does not take any additional accountability for SAtA’s financial position but they have a role in ensuring that the whole Board is able to effectively understand and engage in all matters related to finance.
The Treasurer acts as the Chair of the Board’s Finance Committee and also takes a lead role on behalf of the Board for liaising with the CEO and Finance Manager on financial matters. This is a governance role and the Treasurer does not need to undertake any of the day to day running of the Charity’s finance function.
The full responsibilities can be found in the Treasurer Role Description which should be read alongside the Trustee Role Description.
About the person
We are looking for someone with senior experience of financial management and planning who shares our commitment to SAtA’s vision and to our organisation’s values of being: Person Centred, Inclusive, Independent, Enabling, Influencing.
A good understanding of charity finance and fundraising would be beneficial but not essential as would an understanding of independent advocacy and/or the health and social care sector more broadly both in general and in a local/regional context.
As an organisation that champions inclusion, we are keen to hear from people of all backgrounds who have the skills and experience we are looking for.
Time Commitment
All Trustees of SAtA can expect to commit approximately 35 hours per year between preparation for and attendance at Board and Committee meetings and other activities. The Treasurer can expect to commit a further 8-10 hours (45 hours per year in total).
The appointment will be until March 2024 and 1 consecutive term of a further 2 years may be sought thereafter.
Support
The Treasurer will be supported in their responsibilities by the other members of the Finance Committee as well as by the CEO and Finance Manager.
SAtA is committed to providing whatever reasonably practicable support it can both in the application process and in the performance of the role itself.
